Kildare TT - Feb 09 Update

Kildare Transition Town was officially recognised on July 22nd 2008.

A little over a year ago 2 locals to Kildare Town joined Fada, Newbridge and became involved in Transition. In May 2008, along with 3 other Fada members, they completed transition training. The introductory transition event for Kildare Town was a world cafe in June, supported by Fada. The feedback was very positive and a follow up meeting was arranged. From that we gathered a dedicated core group in touch with the issues and in agreement on the transition required.

Our first official event was an open night in October attended by Trevor Sargent T.D.Minister of State for Food and Horticulture. There was a great turn out - about 60 people. The local press and radio were very supportive - they advertised it well and included a great follow up report. Needless to say food and allotments were discussed a lot and our plan is to carry out a feasability study for allotments. There are many green fingers in Kildare just itching to grow.

In November we had our peak oil information evening with Brian Kaller. He enlightened many people to the facts on peak oil. Thank you so much to Brian for an interesting, informative evening.

We plan further training and some local food growing to kick off 2009.
