Health & Spirit

Cultivate ran a great number of Health and Consciousness related events, especially during its tenure in the West End of Temple Bar.  Here are some of the events.

Emergence 06 - Festival of Art, Consciousness and Ecology

As we all face Climate Change and question how to respond to this formidable challenge, The Emergence Festival, from November 29 to December 2, looks to the arts, psychological perspectives, values, creativity, meditation and more for insights and understanding.

Festival events include Crude Impact, a new film about the realities of our oil addiction, lectures on our relationship with nature from authors John Giannini from Chicago and John Lane from South Devon, an art and ‘reuse’ workshop for youth, a participatory symposium with thinkers from a broad spectrum of society, various meditations, a multi-media art exhibit and a film about a reforestation project in Leitrim.

John Giannini, author of The Compass of the Soul, Jungian analyst and former Catholic priest will speak on "The Sacred Feminine and the Patriarchal Church and Society" on Thursday, November 30th from 7.30 to 9.30pm.  John Lane, author of nine books including Timeless Simplicity and The Spirit of Silence will speak on “Living Simply and Creatively: Psychologically Preparing for Climate Change” on Friday, December 1st from 7.30 to 9.30pm.  Filmmaker James Jandak Wood will introduce and lead discussion on his film Crude Impact, screening Saturday, December 2nd from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

Ugly words create ugly nature.  This is the root of the universe.”

Mandala Painting Workshops

il tempio del tempo piccino.jpg In Sanskrit, the ancient sacred language of India, Mandala means circle.   Mandala is traditionally a geometric projection of the world, it belongs to a symbolic universe representing two aspects of life, the material and the divine, spiritual dimension.

Nowadays, Mandala can be used and lived as an artistic expression that can guide us in the search for our Being. It helps us to reconnect ourselves with our inner centre, to take central aspects of our lives back, to bring us to the here and now, to create space for consciousness and new, positive understanding. That's why it is an amazing meditative technique, that works through the symmetric repetition of forms and colours, creating space and silence within. Geometry becomes the ground for creativity to blossom, a starting point from where everyone can discover to 'be able' and be amazed.

To attend  it is NOT necessary to know how to draw/paint or to have any artistic skills.

People who are experienced in leadership and leadership development understand that how we are and how we move in our bodies is a critical determinant of how we perform and come across as leaders.  Wendy’s workshop helps us to gain insight into how we restrict ourselves and how we can physically release more of our potential.

A more in-depth retreat is being run in Clare from July 8 – 10, for further details, click here.  Also, she will give an Aikido class and Introduction to Conscious Embodiment session on Saturday 4th July in Dublin (details from Fiona McAuley, 086 233 5826).

Art of Breathing Course - To Live Without Stress

Thursday 26th - Monday 30th May 2011 Inclusive | €250 and bring a friend for free (i.e. 50% Discount) | Times: Th / Fr / Mo: 18.30 - 21.00 & Sat / Sun 10.00 - 16.00 (All sessions must be attended) | Cultivate, The Greenhouse, 17 St Andrew St, Dublin (map) | www.artofliving.ie | Bookings: Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 085 156 5880 | On Facebook

Just one of the benefits of the course (when practices become routine):·To live without stress.· The degree to which stress unduly influences our lives is generally underestimated: Often the mind clings on to anger, guilt, or regret about the past, or is plagued by anxiety and worry about the future. This oscillation of the mind causes tension and stress both for ourselves and for the people around us and leads to reduced effectiveness in action. Breath is the link between body and mind, and thus is the key to handling our mind and negative emotions, and releasing our true potential - at work, at home, and at leisure.

In light of current economic hardship, and in celebration of the World Culture Festival in Berlin, 3rd - 4th July, Art of Living's 30th Anniversary, you are invited to bring a friend for free to this course.

Connecting to the Universal Heart - Anusara Inspired Yoga with Frank Brooks

frank and joss Part of the 4th Health & Yoga Day(s)

Saturday 9th January 2010 | 11:15am - 12:30pm | 1st Floor  | €Included in ticket for 4th Health & Yoga Day(s) | Cultivate | Tickets available from Cultivate and most participating organisations and teachers

This method of yoga is often described as a "heart opening" or a "heart oriented" practice.  We begin the practice and each pose by remembering the universal energy that surrounds us and supports us.  We align our bodies in physical postures to open up the energy around our heart space and to release anything that no longer serves us.  We let go of anything that blocks us, anything that prevents us from being fully who we are.  When the energy around our heart opens up we start to live from a place of the heart: decisions that we make are made less from our head and more from our heart, more from a place of love.

In addition to opening up our own hearts, we can connect in to the energy of the universal heart.  Instead of seeing ourselves as isolated, as doing and achieving everything by ourselves, we experience ourselves as part of and integrated into a greater whole.  Just as we have a heartbeat that pulsates through our body, so too does this greater whole have a heartbeat.

Hridaya is a Sanskrit word meaning "heart" and shakti is a Sanskrit word meaning "energy".  We can think of the energy of the universal heart as hridaya shakti.  In this workshop we will plug in, connect to and experience the energy of the universal heart - hridaya shakti!

Chakra Dance Active Meditation with Richard Stone

Part of the 3rd Health & Yoga Day

Saturday 6th June 2009 | 1:15 - 2:15pm |  Classroom 7 | €Included in ticket for 3rd Health & Yoga Day | Cultivate Centre | Book online or ring 01 674 5773

Feel alive in your body, expand your energy, feel joyful, be present!

This is a free expressive dance, guided by the energies of the chakras, and inspired by Osho exercises and tantra techniques.  We feel into the qualities of each chakra in turn, with music specifically written for each chakra, allowing the body to freely express these energies through spontaneous dancing. 40 minutes of dancing leads into 20 minutes of stillness, where we lie down and simply witness the sensations and emotions arising in our body.

Osho recognised that it is difficult for us to still our minds and simply be, with our modern hectic pace of life, so he utilised active meditations, such as dance, to allow expression of our excess energy, so we may then come into stillness.

Sound has an amazing quality of deeply connecting us with our bodies and keeping us grounded and present. When we chant together as a group, we create a harmonious space where we can really feel, hear and embody the sounds we make, even while we experience expanded states of being.

Suitable for beginners and anyone who wants to explore the transformative effects of sound in the body. You don’t have to be a singer to enjoy chanting!

Hatha Yoga - Dynamising the Power Centres for Health, Happiness & Harmony with Marc Allen

Stretch at Sea Part of the 4th Health & Yoga Day(s)

Saturday 9th January 2010 | 15:15 - 16:30 | 2nd Floor Right - Studio | €Included in ticket for 4th Health & Yoga Day(s) | Cultivate | Tickets available from Cultivate and most participating organisations and teachers

One of the main ideas in Yoga is that we have within ourselves an immense power and vast possibilities only that we do not know how to use them. Modern science informs us that we are using only 4% of our brain, yet through the ancient science of Yoga we learn ways to expand and develop the consciousness, unlocking all of our latent abilities, to the greatest extent. Through Yoga we gain complete awareness of who we truly are and what we can become.

In this workshop we will practice traditional Hatha Yoga and discover how the asanas (postures), often considered merely as bodily exercises to improve fitness/flexibility, are in fact very accurate and complex procedures of accumulating certain types of energy at specific levels of our being.

What is Ashtanga Yoga: Yoga is believed to have begun at least 5,000 years ago in the Indus Valley in Northern India. Over the centuries, many different branches of yoga have evolved. The most familiar form of yoga in the West is Hatha Yoga, which incorporates the practice of physical exercise to purify and strengthen the body. Ashtanga Yoga is a type of Hatha Yoga that brings the mind, body and spirit together through asanas (postures) in co-ordination with the breath (pranayama). In Ashtanga Yoga, each posture is reached and moved through in conjunction with an inhale or an exhale.
ashtanga1.jpg
The Workshop will follow The Vinyasa Primary Series: The workshop will combine a specific set of postures under the Primary Series with breath and movement in a vigorous physical practice. Strength and stretch will be applied to move dynamically from one asana to the next. The Yoga sequence is designed to realign the skeletal system, tone and develop strong muscles, create flexibility in the joints, increase lung capacity, improve the health and efficiency of the internal organs, stimulate the immune system, strengthen stamina, improve balance and sharpen mental focus and concentration.
