The British Council Zero Carbon City Climate Change Exhibit. Ten leading Magnum photographers have traveled to twelve locations around the world, capturing not only the impacts of global warming, but the solutions which are being implemented in the North, South, East and West to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. This exhibit will be free of charge and include a number of side events that will take place over the week.

   'Made in Mongolia' by Caitriona Ni Threasaigh
This exhibit is a series of 27 paintings made in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, summer 2005. The work is a personal distillation of a landscape, a people and a culture. It is a manifestation of a response to exposure to new information and senses. The paintings are the result of the artist's immersion into a foreign land and the final images are the essence of this experience.

Part of the 10th Convergence Festival. The Third 'Emergence' hosted at the Cultivate Centre promises to be an enthralling experience once again exploring the connections between art, science and consciousness in the company of some distinguished guests. This year we are delighted to welcome Dr. Otto van Nieuwenhuijze, Saskia Bosman, Ph.D and Alicia Falvey. The trio represent The Visions Lab, a group of scientists and independent researchers from the Netherlands. They have formed a virtual lab as a platform to broaden the scope of science to connect with personal involvement, art, consciousness and sustainability. Irish sacred geometry architect Michael Rice will join them. Michael's emphasis is on Holistic Design using the principles and proportions of Nature.

Convergence, as it's name suggests, brings people together: to share ideas, to explore the latest solutions and approaches to a more balanced lifestyle and together to figure out how we can live fulfilled, dynamic and healthy lives without endangering the ability of the next generation to do the same. It all sounds quite serious but in fact Convergence is both inspiring and perhaps most importantly, great fun!

Composting Class: User-Friendly Alchemy - Turning Kitchen Waste to Garden Gold (1 1/2 hour complete course repeating bi-weekly)

A one and a half hour complete introduction to the magical process of composting. You will learn a variety of techniques for converting kitchen wastes, garden clippings and even waste paper to healthy and valuable soil improving compost. Course will cover the different systems available for home composting, wormeries, set-up and trouble shooting, how compost is formed, and how to use it in the garden. There will also be plenty of time for questions and answers.

The Village Talks: Green Building, Community and Energy Course

This course is presented by experts in the field of energy and construction and is open to anyone with an interest in green building, community and renewable energy systems. Come to explore options for designing, building, heating, and powering your homes. Featuring Duncan Stewart, Davie Philip, Sally Starbuck, Jeff Cowley, Paul Leech and many others in the areas of green building, renewable energy and community. Organised by the Cultivate Centre in association with the Village project and EASCA, the Environmental and Sustainable Construction Association

The Village development is quite unlike any other in Ireland, it includes the provision of 132 fully serviced sites suitable for a variety of housing, including apartments, terraced, semi-detached and detached. Residents will also co-own multi-use community buildings, private allotments and over fifty acres of land that's zoned for horticultural and woodland use. Homes will be built to a very high eco-standard according to the company's ecological charter, which sets clear targets for design and construction of houses and for common land use and management.
